Why hello there, ye faithful, sporadic readers and listeners to Milton’s Comics & Culture Radar. You may have noticed things have been quiet around these parts for quite a while. That’s about to change.
First up: new website!
I recently participated in a pitch that required me to take a good long look at my website, and it was just not getting the job done. So I’ve done a major overhaul. Check it out at http://miltonlawson.com/.
The new website features:
Online store! buy comics direct from me!
A spiffy portfolio section for an easy glance at my work to date.
A clean, intuitive design that’s easy to navigate.
Also today: New trailer video for “Dead Dreams”
Today, the excellent comic creative team behind Dead Dreams have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Zoop.gg. I had the privilege of editing together the video for their campaign. Check it out & if you like what you see, you can help by sharing the link on social media, or even pre-ordering the book itself!
Next up: more content, soon!
It’s almost Academy Awards time and I’ve been cramming to watch some of those award-contender type films that get released early in the following year. I’ve still got a ways to go, but, I can already expect the list of my favorite films of the year will be an eclectic lot, with some unexpected choices - hopefully you’ll find something not quite on your radar yet that will pique your interest.
In addition to celebrating the year in cinema, I’ve got some topics I want to explore after that: fan service, comics verité, exclusion and inclusion, and other nagging questions about the creative process.
And then after that…
I won’t have my feelings hurt if you don’t trust this next thing. You’re right to be skeptical after I’ve been off the grid so long. But when I say “new comics stuff IS in the works! I promise!” I’m not kidding. I have several really cool projects I’m dying to announce - or give progress reports on - but we’re just not there - yet. Like many in the comics industry, a number of things in the works have had pandemic/general-comics-chaos cause unexpected delays. But in the next few months, I’m hoping to be able to give solid updates on at least two things in the hella packed project pipeline. Stay tuned! Convention appearance news! New project announcement(s). And maybe even something about that guy who once got sponsored by Campbell’s Soup.
