Thompson Heller: Detective Interstellar is now available for pre-order and will be in comic shops on October 28th! We’ve just released a new trailer:
The trailer features music by the artist for Thompson Heller, the mighty Dave Chisholm, who also has an incredible graphic novel on Charlie Parker coming this year.
Please contact your local comic shop and tell them you want a copy of the book! Just tell them this pre-order code: AUG201595 to reserve a copy.
Comic-Con @ Home: All the panels, none of the lines!
The “Breaking Into Comics and Staying In” panel is always a treat, and this year was no exception. Bon Alimagno had some interesting comments on the role of luck in a comics career, and they were joined by the illustrious Sanford Greene. Speaking of which…
I was thrilled to see the BITTER ROOT team win the Eisner for Best Continuing Series. Sanford Greene has been a big help to me as a comics creator trying to learn the biz. He’s a fantastic artist and a great dude, so it’s doubly rewarding to see.
The “What’s New in Small Press” panel had a number of really intriguing comics previewed, including Broken Gargoyles and No Heroine, both of which are coming from Source Point Press, and I have a suspicion they’ll be excellent.
I’m slowly making my way through the panels, I’ll have more to link to next time.
Quick Radar Pings
I was floored by the movie BABYTEETH, an indie film from down under. The less you know about it, the better the experience. Resonant, contemporary, beautifully shot, filled with great performances, a film that lures you into surprising depths.
The Dick Cavett Show YouTube channel posted an amazing clip in which screenwriter Erich Segal gets in a passionate debate with a critic of his work. It’s a fascinating example of the intelligent conversations that happened on the Dick Cavett show, and a sad reminder of how low contemporary talk shows have sunk.
Yeah, I admit it, I freakin’ loved the BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC trailer.

This one’s from several months ago and I missed it, but, enjoy:
Burying the lede
Speaking of aliens… after the recent confirmation of UFO videos from military aircraft, the Dept. of Defense is set to announce findings from its UFO unit. Reportedly, an astrophysicist “briefed a Department of Defense (DOD) agency as recently as March about retrieving materials from “off-world vehicles not made on this earth.”
Yeah, seriously. Read the NY Times and Popular Mechanics articles on this.
But if you want the real truth about UFOs & aliens… stay tuned…
