As of this morning, we’re at 77% of our goal, with seven days to go. Momentum has stalled, but I’ve got a couple of podcast/livestream appearances to help spread the word. It’ll be a tight race to the end, but I think we’ll get over the finish line.
Today I want to highlight the team that created “Orson Welles: Warrior of the Worlds.” Every person mentioned here has been vital to the existence of the book, and it’s truly been an honor to collaborate with them.
Artist - Erik Whalen
I met Erik at HeroesCon several years ago. He’s an insanely talented artist based out of Michigan. He like sports, roots for the Detroit Lions, and loves wrestling. His most recent book not about Orson Welles is “Blüd City Street Fight” - which is kind of a Sin City / Pro Wrestling mash-up. Find him at http://www.erikwhalen.com/
Editor - Andrea Lorenzo Molinari
Andrea’s edits have saved the book on several occasions. For a book that’s 240 pages long, with tons of Easter eggs and more than a few verbose monologues, Andrea had a lot of work to do. In addition to being a comics editor, Andrea is also a writer. His main series is called The Shepherd, and you can find him online at Facebook and Instagram: @theshepherdcomic Website: https://www.theshepherdcomic.com/
Alternate Cover Artist - Dave Chisholm
Dave is an all-around comics triple threat - writer, artist, letterer. Not to mention he’s a musician and music teacher. He recently won the Ringo award for Best Non-Fiction Work for his masterpiece “Miles Davis and the Search for the Sound.” His current series is “Spectrum” - a wild ride through a cosmic war in which music acts as a fundamental powerful force. In addition to doing an alternate cover, he helped illustrate a ton of images for the first trailer for “Orson.” He’s online at https://www.davechisholmmusic.com/
Alternate Cover Artist - Chris Doray
Chris is the artist behind the script book cover for “Welles,” and drew many of the illustrations in one of the early trailers for this project. Check out his Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisdoray_art/
Letterer - Damon Kane
Damon is the letterer for most of my comics, including Thompson Heller: Detective Interstellar and the upcoming Splinter City. He learned some tricks of the trade by DC Hopkins.
Special Thanks - Rick Quinn
Rick is a de facto editor on most of my comics. On “Orson,” he was a vital contributor to helping me translate the initial idea into a workable storytelling framework.
Rick is also the best writer in comics doing work today. He’s the writer behind “Spectrum” with Dave Chisholm. Rick is online at https://aphexquinn.com/
Special Thanks - Sean McArdle
Sean is the co-writer of “The Fuhrer and the Tramp” - a story pitting Charlie Chaplin against Hitler (so, Sean knows a thing or two about alt-history Hollywood stories). Sean was pivotal in helping me break down some key structural elements of the book, as well as helping on publication/technical matters.
Consigliere Di Guerra - Joseph Lawrence Thompson
Unlike Tom Hagen in The Godfather, Joseph Thompson is indeed a wartime consigliere. He’s the primary attorney for this project, and is also a co-writer on a few in-development comics projects with me. At many times, this project was on life support, and pulling the plug was a distinct possibility. He helped me stay sane and navigate through some difficult choices and situations. If you need legal help on a creative project, reach out to me and I can get you his contact information.
Alternate Cover Artist - Renton Hawkey
Renton did several sketches and original art pieces for the first “Welles” Kickstarter campaign and did one of the alternate covers for issue 1 of the series. Renton is a writer/artist based in Wisconsin. He’s got a fantastic webcomic called “Ronin Digital Express” which he just announced will be relaunching soon. It’s part Kurosawa Samurai flick, part Star Wars, all badass. Highly recommend subscribing: https://rentonhawkey.substack.com/
